WHEREAS, the bicycle has been an important method of transportation throughout the nation for more
than a century; and,
WHEREAS, millions of people engage in bicycling because it is a viable and environmentally-sound form
of transportation, an excellent form of fitness and provides quality recreation; and,
WHEREAS, May is designated as National Bike Month and May 14-18, 2012 is Collier County Bike to
Work Week, to promote and celebrate the joys and benefits of bicycling for
transportation and recreation; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County Growth Management Division, Community Traffic Safety Team, Nap/es
Pathways Coalition, Smart Growth Team and other community members work diligently to
improve cycling conditions on our roadways, educate the public about bicycling and promote
safe bicycling; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County actively encourages bicycling as an important mode of transportation and
encourages every citizen to ride a bike during National Bike Month and Collier County Bike
to Work Day and ask that all motorists drive with extra care during this time while they
share the road.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that May 2012 be designated as
NATIONAL BIKE MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8'h Day of May, 2012.
