Backup Documents 05/08/2012 Item # 4D PROCLAMATION D WHEREAS, safe, clean and sustainable water resources are essential to Florida's environment, economy, citizens and visitors; and, WHEREAS, Florida's water supplies are finite, while its population and need for water resources continues to increase; and, WHEREAS, water reuse provides a means for conserving and augmenting Florida's precious water resources; and, WHEREAS, Florida established the encouragement and promotion of water reuse as state objectives in Florida Statutes Chapters 373 and 403 and is joined in this effort by Collier County Public Utilities, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the South Florida Water Management District; and, WHEREAS, Florida's permitted reuse capacity exceeds 1.5 billion gallons per day, which is more than 62 percent of Florida's total permitted capacity for all domestic wastewater treatment facilities; and, WHEREAS, Florida leads the nation in reusing 658 million gallons of reclaimed water each day to conserve freshwater supplies and replenish our rivers, streams, lakes and aquifers; and, WHEREAS, WateReuse Florida, a section of the WateReuse Association, declared May 20-26, 2012 as Water Reuse Week; and, WHEREAS, Collier County Public Utilities implemented a water reuse program, encouraging the efficient and effective use of reclaimed water and water conservation among citizens and business. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that May 20th-26th be designated as WATER REUSE WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8th Day of May 2012.
