Backup Documents 04/24/2012 Item # 4FPROCLAMATION 4 F WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life- changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease; and, WHEREAS, the 2012 Immokalee Relay for Life will take place at Immokalee High School on Friday, April 27th at 4:00 p.m. through Saturday, April 28th, 10:00 a. m..- and, WHEREAS, the Relay starts with a Survivors Lap, an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories achieved over cancer; and, WHEREAS, the event also honors people who have been touched by cancer and remembers loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony held after dark at 9:00 p. m., and, WHEREAS, with chartered divisions throughout the country and over 3,400 local offices, the American Cancer Society is committed to fighting cancer through balanced programs of research, education, patient service, advocacy, and rehabilitation, and, WHEREAS, donations made to the Relay for Life help support the American Cancer Society fulfill its mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that April 27th and 28th, 2012 be designated as IMMOKALEE RELAY FOR LIFE DAYS to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost to the disease and fight back against a disease that takes too many.
