Backup Documents 03/13/2012 Item # 4C4� PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is a national initiative to open a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information; and, WHEREAS, Sunshine Week grew out of Florida's "Sunshine Sunday" in 2002 in response to efforts by some Florida legislators to create scores of new exemptions to the state's public records low; and, WHEREAS, Sunshine Week supports the Open Government Reform created through an Executive Order on June 19, 2007; and WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is increasing public awareness and the efforts of participants are being cited as real forces for moving the public away from simply accepting excessive and unwarranted government secrecy, and, WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is about the public's right to know what its government is doing and why and seeks to enlighten and empower people to play an active role in their government at all levels, providing them with access to information that makes their lives better and communities stronger. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that March 11 -17, 2012 be designated as SUNSHINE WEEK IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 13th Day of March, 2012.
