Backup Documents 11/12/2013 Item # 4H PROCLAMATION 4j-j WHEREAS, Collier County is renowned for its locally grown organic food and for the local artisanal restaurants that serve nutritionally prepared local organic food, creating a connection between people and their food sources, from the farmer to the chef,' and, WHEREAS, local organic farms, as stewards of our precious natural resources, grow organic produce of an unsurpassed quality within our regional foodshed that is fresher and better tasting than food that has been trucked in from hundreds of miles away; such local farms include Oakes Farms, Inyoni Farms and Wild Heritage Farms; and, WHr:REAS, locally grown organic food supports our economy, as money spent with local farmers and restaurants stays close to home, circulating within in the community; and, WH';REAS, Oakes Farms, family owned since 1976, utilizes a "Seed to Table" concept, using the highest standards of organic growing at their farm in eastern Collier County, their marketplace at 2205 Davis Blvd, and at the Food d Thought café and general store at 2132 Tamiami Trail North, with a noble goal to "make everyone who works here and shops here happier, healthier and more self-reliant;" and, WHH=REAS, The Local is a family owned restaurant located at 5323 Airport-Pulling Road, Naples, with a unique 'Farm and Sea to Table" concept, proudly serving locally grown organic produce; and, WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners supports the economic success of local organic farms and artisanal restaurants, recognizing that they enhance our quality of life, play a key role in creating a healthier community and that buying locally grown and served foods ensures that these businesses continue to thrive. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that November 2013 be designated as LOCAL ORGANIC FOOD MONTH DONE AND ORD.
