Backup Documents 11/12/2013 Item # 4G 4G PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, in 2008, the Florida Legislature established the Florida Veterans Foundation as a Direct Support Organization to the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs (FDVA); and, WHEREAS, as a Direct Support Organization, the Florida Veterans Foundation was incorporated as a not for profit corporation under chapter 617, Florida Statutes, to provide assistance, funding and support for the FDVA in carrying out its mission of veterans' advocacy; and, WHEREAS, the Florida Veterans Foundation is a nonprofit organization operating for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code to: -Educate the public about the needs of veterans; -Promote and aid charitable activities for the support of the livelihood and general welfare of Florida-resident veterans; -Provide employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities through federal contracts for goods and services; and, WHEREAS, Florida has approximately 1.6 million veterans who served in various conflicts from World War II through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; and, Wi IEREAS, the Florida Veterans Foundation operates for the direct and indirect benefit of the veterans of Florida, the FDVA, and other veteran service organizations; and, WHEREAS, the Florida Veterans Foundation serves, supports, and advocates for Florida veterans to improve their well being and seeks to become a force and a presence in Collier County to serve area Veterans. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that November 11th through 17th, 2013 be designated as FLORIDA VETERANS FOUNDATION WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 12th Day of November, 2013.
