Backup Documents 11/12/2013 Item # 4E PROCLAMATION 4E WHEREAS, the National Coalition for the Homeless and National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness have sponsored Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week for several years; and, WHEREAS, the purpose of the week is to educate the public about the many reasons individuals are hungry and homeless, including the shortage of affordable housing in Collier County for very low income residents and encourage support for homelessness assistance providers; and, WHEREAS, the Hunger & Homeless Coalition of Collier County and Faith Communities to End Homelessness recognize that hunger and homelessness continues to be a serious problem for many individuals and families in Collier County where adequate housing is limited; and, WHEREAS, homelessness is both a statistical and personal reality for many families, veterans and a growing number of schoolchildren in Collier County; and, WHEREAS, in 2013, Collier County reported 396 homeless adults and 1,054 public school children as homeless, an increase in both groups from 2012; and, WHEREAS, the Hunger & Homeless Coalition of Collier County and Faith Communities to End Homelessness have many activities planned throughout the week to increase awareness and facilitate solutions to prevent and end homelessness and hunger in Collier County. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that November 10-17, 2013 be designated as HUNGER d HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 12fh Day of November, 2013.
