Backup Documents 05/28/2013 Item # 4A 4 A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, in 1997, the first Collier County Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R. T.) was created on the Isles of Capri; and, WHEREAS, C.E.R. T. was initially developed to assist communities in taking care of themselves in the aftermath of a major disaster when First Responders were overwhelmed or unable to respond; since then, they have become a vital part of community preparedness and response capability; and, WHEREAS, Collier County C.E.R. T. has grown from one team of volunteers to as many as three teams of volunteers in a fire district; and, WHEREAS, despite financial and personnel decreases in the fire districts, several teams remain robust through their own efforts, including Verona Walk and Tall Oaks, North Naples Fire, Fiddlers Creek, City of Marco Is/and Fire, Ave Maria, Immokalee and Waterways/Big Corkscrew Island; and, WHEREAS, Collier County Emergency Management, EMS and the fire districts will continue to provide logistical and exercise support to the active teams. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that June 2-8, 2013 be designated as C.E.R.
