Backup Documents 05/14/2013 Item # 4CAMA TION 4 C PRO C L WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Auxiliary is a volunteer organization comprised of all volunteer men and women who devote their time and efforts to making our waterways safe for all boaters; and, WHEREAS, USCG Auxiliary, Flotilla 93 patrols our waters from Clam Pass in the north to Capri Pass in the south while promoting boater safety through boater education programs and vessel safety examination programs, and, WHEREAS, the Auxiliary has trained hundreds of its members to assist the USCG in all of its missions allowed by statute and directed by Commandant, but its primary focus remains boater education; and, WHEREAS, National Safe Boating Week is a nationwide effort to kick off boating season throughout the United States, while Flotilla 93s labors in this area continue throughout the year due to a climate conducive to year -round boating; and, WHEREAS, in 2011 there were 758 fatalities from boating accidents and National Safe Boating Week presents an opportunity to make a concerted effort to get boaters to wear life jackets since 90 percent of those in fatal boating accidents were not wearing life jackets when the accident occurred; and, WHEREAS, Flotilla 93 celebrates this week as well as the National Safe Boating Councils "Ready, Set, Wear Itr Life Tacket World Record Day by encouraging boaters to wear life jackets and inviting all boaters to a life jacket party, admission is the wearing of a life jacket; and, WHEREAS, Collier County expresses its appreciation to Flotilla 93 for patrolling our pristine waterways, providing thousands of vessel safety checks and offering count less hours of boating education to the boaters of Collier County. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that May 18, 2013 be designated as U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY, FLOTILLA 93 LIFE JACKET DAY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 14th Day of May, 2013.
