Backup Documents 04/09/2013 Item # 4C PROCLAMATION 4 WHEREAS, non-stranger and stranger rape and sexual assault affects women, children and men of all racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and sexual violence against the citizens of Collier County continues at an alarming rate; and, WHEREAS, women, children and men suffer multiple types of sexual violence which is devastating for not only the survivor, but for the family and friends of the survivor; and, WHEREAS, to prevent future violation of our citizens, it is critical to foster greater public awareness of the causes and effects of sexual violence and to address this problem on every civic level; and, WHEREAS, the Project Help, Inc. staff and volunteers are committed to increasing public awareness of sexual violence and its prevalence and it eliminating it through prevention and education; and, WHEREAS, important partnerships have been formed among criminal and juvenile justice agencies, health providers, allied professionals and victims services; and, WHEREAS, Project Help, Inc. will join with other Sexual Assault Service Providers, the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence and other interested organizations in public awareness initiatives intended to generate greater public understanding of the issues surrounding sexual assault. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that April 2013 be designated as SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9TH Day of April, 2013.
