Agenda 12/14/2010 Item # 5B Agenda Item No 58 December 14. 2010 Page 1 of 6 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY PRESENTATION OF THE ADVISORY COMMlTTEE OUTSTANDING MEMBER AWARD TO MAURICE GUTIERREZ OF THE BA YSHORE BEAUTIFICATION MSTU ADVISORY COMMlTTEE.. OBJECTIVE: To recognize and reward an advisory committee member for their outstanding and dedicated service to Collier County. CONSIDERATIONS: On September 21,2004, the Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution No. 2004-280 to recognize and reward outstanding Advisory Committee members for their significant contributions to the organization and/or community. The respective committees nominate the outstanding Advisory Committee members and the Awards Committee (same committee that currently selects the Employee of the Month) evaluates and selects volunteers from the nomination forms. 1) Mr. Gutierrez has served on the MSTU Committee for ten (10) years and recently joined the Bayshore CRA Advisory Board. He served as MSTU Vice Chainnan for seven (7) years and when the Chairman passed away, he assumed those duties and is now leading the Committee through a. an area Master Plan development process, b. a multi-modal pathway construction project, c. residential street safety lighting project, d. a street landscape improvement project, and e. a citizen survey I()r a proposed boundary expansion. 2) Mr. Gutierrez spearheaded a joint and collaborative street multi-modal pathway project that includes Florida-friendly landscape (no irrigation or maintenance required), an eight- loot wide pedestrian/bicycle path, designed street crosswalks, and 70 pedestrian scale lights lor safety and ambiance. a. He negotiated a collaborative design process with the CRA Board and jointly funded thc design process that included citizen participation in selection of the type of improvements going into the neighborhood. b. At completion of the design process, he and his committee selected a consulting firm to create construction documents for bidding purposes. He led the Committee through the monthly design review process to achieve a final set of plans for County approval. c. He worked with local citizens, businesses and Naples Botanical Gardens (major attraction in the area) to solve conflicts with adjacent property owners. d. The MSTLJ's project was submitted to the Florida Redevelopment Association program for consideration of an annual award for redevelopment. The project won the 2010 Collaborative Partnership Award which will be presented in October at the Association's Annual Conference in Orlando.
