OBJEC'T'I\(I: To obtain authorization for a Budget Amendment to approve the emergency
replacement of the fire alarm system at the Naples Regional Library (Central Avenue) in the
amount of $37,598.
CONSID'B6mfj: The Department of Facilities Management is responsible for the
maintenance, repair, and replacement of the fire monitoring system at the Naples Regional
Library.

The fire alann system presently installed at Naples Regional Library is a Simplex system, which
has been ~iscontinued, and spare paris for repairs are nonexistent. There have been several
occasions where the system has' failed. These issues are mainly due to the age of the
equipment When the system fails, a fire watch must be provided according to National Fire
Protection Association code to insure building safety. A "fire watch- requires a person on the
premises 2417 until the fire system is corrected.
Currently there are no funds budgeted for the replacement of this system and Facilities
Management is recommending the use of reserve funds due to the importance of providing
effective fire safety.
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment is needed in the amount of $37,598, decreasing
reserves and increasing the General Building Improvements Project Number 52525, in the
County-Wide Capital Projects Fund 301.
GROWTH MANAq"~T IIP~T: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Stmmary.

RECOMM~nON: That the Board authorizes the necessary Budget Amendments in the
amount of $37,598, as described within this Summary to replace the Naples Regi()nal Library
