Agenda 10/26/2010 Item #16J 4Agenda Item No. 16,14 October 26, 2010 Page 1 of 3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Request that the Board of County Commissioners approves the transfer of tangible personal property, purchased in FY 2010 to benefit the Collier County Sheriff, to the custody of the Sheriff of Collier County. OBJECTIVE: The Board of County Commissioners approves the transfer of tangible personal property, purchased in Fiscal Year 2010 to benefit the Collier County Sheriff, to the Sheriff's custody in compliance with the requirements set forth under Florida law regarding the supervision and control of property owned by local governments. CONSIDERATIONS: F.S., Chapter 274, requires that a governmental unit shall be responsible for the supervision and control of its fixtures and other tangible personal property of a nonconsumable nature (property). The Collier County Board of Commissioners (Board) is responsible for the proper and prudent acquisition, utilization, transfer, and disposal of Collier County property. Chapter 274.03, Florida Statutes, authorizes that in each county the Sheriff shall be the custodian of the property of the office of sheriff. Between October 1, 2009 and September 30, 2010, the Board purchased equipment to benefit law enforcement operations and prisoner services. Property with an acquisition value of at least $1000 and a useful life of one year or more was capitalized and assigned asset numbers. Attached is an Exhibit listing the FY 2010 capital assets that have been under the care and control of the office of the sheriff since property acquisition. The total value of the assets is $7,155.01. To comply with Florida Statutes, the transfer of custody to the Sheriff of the capital assets listed in the attached Exhibit must be approved by the Board. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this action. RECOMMENDATION: The Board of County Commissioners approves the transfer of tangible personal property, purchased in FY 2010 to benefit the Collier County Sheriff and described in the attached Exhibit, to the custody of the Sheriff.
