their first birthday; and,
WHEREAS, rBSetJI'Ch has shown that the majDf'ity of infant and fetal deaths tIIY! due to the
hllafth of the mother before she gets pregnant; and,
WHEREAS, Healthy Start Coalitian of Southwest Florida is a not-for-profit 501(cX3) thot hQS
served Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee Counties ,since 1992 helping to ensure
pregnant women (lfI(/ babies have acCess to needed medical care and other community
services to help give their baby a Healthy Start in life; and,
WHEREAS, today there tIIY! 30 Healthy Start CoalitiOflS. Services are available in all 67 counties
in Florida, which serve as sUccessful examples to privatizing a government program to
ensure flI"lJ$S1'Oots decisi()//-making to meet and monitor local needs: and,
WHEREAS, Healthy Start of Southwest Florida hQS a variety of programs to help prevent infant
deaths and premature births and to promote health and developmental outcomes for
