PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, domestic violence permeates the lives and c()mpromises the safety
of thousands of Collier County citizens with tragic, destructive, and
sametimes fatal results: and;
WHeREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to anyone
group of people, but affect people across 01/ economic strata, race
and ethniclty, sexual orientation, culture and society, and are
supported by societal indiffefYlflce,' and,
WHEREAS, the. crime of domestic violence violates an individuals privacy"
dignity security and humanity due to systemic use of physical,
emotional, sexual. psychological. and economic control and/or
abuse; and.
WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wlde~ranging, directly affecting
Women, men, cht1drcn and society as a whole; antt
WHeREAS, The Shelter for Abused Women & Children has provided SUPpDrt,
safety and advocacy to domestic violence survivors and their
children since 1989; and
WHEREAS, Collier County is committed to taking a firm stand against domestic
violence and will remain focJJsed on ensuring that all Collier Ccunty
r/:sidents are safe in their homes and abusers are held accountable
for their crimes.
NOW THEREFOR€, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida, that October, 2010 be designated as
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
