EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize a Budget Amendment appropriating $39,000 from
the Tourist Development Council (TDC) grant to the Freedom Memorial Fund
(Fund 620), for construction costs.
OBJECTIVE: Obtain authorization from the Board of County Commissioners for a budget
amendment appropriating $39,000 from a TDC grant, to fund construction costs for the
Freedom Memorial.
CONSIDERATIONS: In 2005, the Collier County Board of Commissioners established that
there was a valid public purpose for the solicitation and receipt of donations to construct a
Freedom Memorial (Resolution 2005 -259). In order to provide for the design and construction
of the Memorial, the Freedom Memorial Fund (620) was established. Funding for the
construction of the Freedom Memorial is provided by grants and contributions, including funding
from the TDC.
In Fiscal Year 2010, the Freedom Memorial Fund has obligated funds for construction that TDC
has budgeted and agreed to reimburse with a grant in the amount of $39,000.
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment is needed to appropriate funds for a $39,000 grant for
the Freedom Memorial that TDC has budgeted in FY 2010. These associated expenses and
revenue are forecasted in the FY 2011 Freedom Memorial budget.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary,
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney and is
legally sufficient for Board action. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board authorizes a Budget Amendment appropriating
$39,000 in the Freedom Memorial Fund (Fund 620) for construction costs to be paid for by a
grant from TDC.
