OBJECTIVE: To appoint I member to serve the remainder of a term that will expire on
November 5, 2010 and an additional 4 years to expire on November 5, 2014 to the Collier
County Citizens Corps.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Collier County Citizens Corps is an 11 member committee that
was established on November 5, 2002 by Ordinance No. 02 -56 to provide information to the
citizens of Collier County and to act as a coordinating agency for the enhancement of activities
that support emergency services, law enforcement and disaster prevention, preparedness and
response. The committee will assist in the recruitment of volunteers by publicizing and
expanding existing community programs such as: Medical Reserve, Neighborhood Watch,
Community Emergency Response Teams, Volunteers in Police Service & other public safety and
law enforcement programs. They will also facilitate communication between Collier County &
State & Federal agencies on mitigation activities as well as to enable Collier County to identify
outside resources such as grants, training opportunities and equipment. A list of the current
membership is included in the backup.
Notification was received on April 19, 2010 from the American Red Cross that Ms. Deborah
Horvath was relocating and was to be replaced.
A letter was received on July 7, 2010 from the American Red Cross recommending the following
applicant:

RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners considers the
recommendation for appointment, appoint 1 member, and direct the County Attorney to prepare
a resolution confirming the appointment.

Please accept my resignation from the Citizen Corps Advisory Committee of Collier
County. After 15 years with the American Red Cross, and more than 5 years on the
Citizen Corps Committee, I have made a decision to leave this beautiful community to
be closer to my family. t will be moving to Ocala and working in Gainesville, so I will still
be a Florida resident and hope to bring some of my expertise to them.
1 have enjoyed my time on the Committee and hope I have made some small difference.
I wish you all the best as you move our County forward. I will miss you all and thank you
for all you have taught me over the years.
