EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize John Veit, Emergency Management Coordinator,
Bureau of Emergency Services, as the Employee of the Month for July 2010.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize John Veit, Emergency Management Coordinator, as the Employee
of the Month for July 2010.
CONSIDERATIONS: John Veit, Emergency Management Coordinator, has been nominated as
the "Employee of the Month" for July 2010. John, an employee of 22 years, started his career
with Collier County in the Parks and Recreation Department. After 17 years with the Parks
Department, he became an Emergency Management Coordinator with the Bureau of
Emergency Services in September 2005.
John is a skilled logistician who possesses a complete and thorough knowledge of emergency
management. He single - handedly maintains the readiness status of over $1 million of response
equipment, tools, and supplies. His conscientious research into necessary products and vendor
services has assured the taxpayers of Collier County that they are getting the best value for
their taxes. As the departmental logistics coordinator, he has gone above and beyond the
normal training and education requirements to ensure he has the knowledge and proficiency to
protect our citizens.
A prime example of John's efforts was when he partnered with the Collier County School District
to procure a $1 million generator to support the County's Special Needs Shelter at Palmetto
Ridge High School. This generator was offered through a grant available to all 67 counties in
Florida. John quickly realized though that time and funding restrictions would limit the number
of counties that actually received a generator. He took it upon himself to partner with the school
district and the state to ensure that Collier County would be one of the first to receive one, and
through his dedication we were one of only 17 counties that did.
John is truly one of the County's great assets. His professionalism and devotion to duty make
him truly deserving of this award.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item presents no legal issues. - JAK
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: To approve the recognition of John Veit as the "Employee of the Month"
for July 2010.
