EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
COMMISSIONER REQUEST FOR BOARD APPROVAL FOR PAYMENT TO
ATTEND FUNCTION SERVING A VALID PUBLIC PURPOSE
OBJECTIVE: For the Board of County Commissioners to declare a valid public
purpose for a Commissioner to attend function/event and approve payment by the Clerk.
CONSIDERA TIONS: Pursuant to Resolution No. 99-410, the Board of County
Commissioners has determined that attendance at the functions of fraternal, business,
environmental, educational, charitable, social, professional, trade, homeowners, ethnic,
and civic association/organizations serves a valid public purpose, provided that said
functions reasonably relate to Collier County matters.
COMMISSIONER: Jim Coletta
FUNCTION/EVENT: Fact finding tour of The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor,
Maine. Airfare and hotel deposit.
PUBLIC PURPOSE: Meet and interact with business and community leaders.
DATE OF FUNCTION/EVENT: July 16-18, 2010
FISCAL IMPACT: $1,060.13 - Funds to be paid from Commissioner's travel budget.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners, in accordance with
Resolution No. 99-410, approve payment by the Clerk for Commissioner Jim Coletta to
attend function serving a valid public purpose.

Check-in/Check-out: Our normal check-in time is 3:00 to 6:00pm. We can usually accommodate early or late
arrival if we are informed in advance. Please telephone us if you will be arriving after 6:00pm so that we can
make the necessary arrangements.. We request payment of your balance upon arrival.
Check-out time is 10:30 am.
Occupancy: Occupancy is limited to the number of persons indicated below. We cannot accommodate pets.
Cancellation Policy: If you cancel your reservation at least 14 days prior to your first night's stay we will be
happy to refund your deposit, less a $25 fee. For a cancellation after that time any refund is dependent upon our
ability to re-rent the room for the full period of your reservation. The deposit for reservations made less than 14

This year's keynote speaker is Susan Desmond-Hellmann, M.D., M.P.H.,
chancellor of the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Desmond-
Hellmann previously served as president of product development at
Genentech, a position she held from March 2004 through April 2009.
During her time at Genentech, she was the key force behind the
development of several innovative anti-cancer drugs. Dr. Desmond-
Hellmann will discuss the challenges and eventual clinical successes of the
important breast cancer drug, Herceptin.
