PROCL.AMA TION
WHEREAS, Juneteenth is a celebration of humanity and conveys the message
that freedom is the basic fundamental right of one and all: and,
WHEREAS, celebrated on June 19 as Freedom Day (or Emancipation Day). it
commemorates the declaration of abolishment of slavery in Texas
and has special significance for African Americans across the
United States~' and,
WHEREAS, the celebration will commence at 11 :00 a.m. Saturday, June 19,
2010 at Sugden Regional Park, 4284 Avalon Drive, Naples,
Florida; and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County NAACP (National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People) Branch #5117 will be conducting
their 1st annual Juneteenth Family Day Celebration: and,
WHEREAS, this years theme is "Embracing our Past, Empowering our Future"
and will be a family day and much more; and,
WHEREAS, NAACP Branch #5117 is progressive and committed to advocating
civil rights of all individuals in the community with a vision to
educate, promote, and remember our history, and celebrate
diversity which brings us together as a community.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida, that June 19, 2010 be designated as
Collier Countys NAACP Branch #511 Ts pt annual
JUNETEENTH FAMILY DAY CELEBRA TION
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8th Day of June, 2010.
