EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Brenda Brilhart, Purchasing Agent, Purchasing
Department, as the Employee of the Month for May 2010.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize Brenda Brilhart, Purchasing Agent, as the Employee of the Month
for May 2010.
CONSIDERATIONS: Brenda Brilhart, Purchasing Agent, has been nominated as the
"Employee of the Month" for May 2010. Brenda, an employee of the County for six years, works
in the Purchasing Department.
Brenda's work product is consistently outstanding. As the Purchasing Agent in charge of
transportation related procurements for the Growth Management Division, she handles some of
the most challenging bid specifications in terms of their size, breadth and diversification. In
addition to the large size of these bids, Brenda is able to juggle 20-25 of these types of
solicitations at one time, more than double the amount of others in the position. She goes
above and beyond to understand and capture customer requirements and seeks innovative and
creative ways to attract new vendors. As an example of this, Brenda works with the Alternative
Transportation Modes Department to host a yearly open house to reach out to possible vendors
and familiarize current contractors with new procedures or upcoming projects.
In addition to her large work volume, Brenda has taken an active leadership role in many other
initiatives. She is becoming the local purchasing "expert' in federal and state grants. She has
also assisted with and updated purchasing templates and processes to better accommodate
suppliers and internal customers. Brenda is a steady and consistent performer who constantly
seeks opportunities to enhance her skills and abilities. She is an asset to Collier County and is
truly deserving of this award.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item presents no legal issues. - JAK
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: To approve the recognition of Brenda Brilhart as the "Employee of the
Month" for May 2010.
