PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, in December 2007, Congress declared the first week of June each year
as National CPR/AED Awareness Week: and,
WHEREAS. the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association, together,
support National CPR/AED Aware:t1t!ss Week and the national goal is to
encourage: states, cities and towns to establish organized programs that
provide CPR and AED trainings and increase public access to AEDs: and
WHEREAS, National CPR/AED Awareness Week would help increase public awareness
by further educating Americans about the necessity of CPR and AED
training and use to reduce death and disability from sudden cardiac
arrest/ and,
WHEREAS. the American Heart Association has the goal of training one million
people during the year 2010: and,
WHEREAS, each year approximately 325,000 coronary heart disease deaths occur
out of a hospital or in an emerge:ncy room and about 95 percent of
cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital: and,
WHEREAS, sudden cardiac arrest, which occurs when the heart's electrical system
malfunctions and the heart stops beating, is one of the leading causes of
death among adults in North America: and,
WHEREAS, the Callier County EMS Deportment has stepped up to the challenge:.
setting an organizational goal of reaching all county employees with the
vital knowledge: and skJ1ls to respond to a life- threatening situation with
confidence over the next eighteen months: and,
WHEREAS, June 1 through 7, 2010 marks the 5Cf" anniversary of modern-day CPR
as well as National CPR and AED Awareness Week.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Soard of County Commissioners of Callier
County, Florida, that the week of June 1 through June 7, 2010 be
designated as
COLLIER COUNTY CPR AND AED AWARENESS WEEK
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 25th Day of May. 2010.
