transportation in preserving its quality of life: and,
WHJ:R€AS. the entire month of May is Nationol Bike Month. and May 28th. 2010 is Collier
County Bike to Work Day, which Is to promote and celebrate the JoYs and
benefits of bicycling for transportation and recreation In Collier County where
cyt:/ists enjoy optimum riding conditions because of the temperate climate; and,
WHJ:R€AS, the Collier County 6rr>wth Management Division, Community Traffic Safety
Teom, Naples Pathwoys Coalition, Smart Growth Coalition, Collier County Health
Deportment, and numerous other community members ho~ WOf'ked diligently o~r
the post years to impro~ cycling conditions on our raadways, to educate the
public about bicycling, and to promote sofe bicycling for recreation and
transportation: ond,
WHJ:R€AS, the Community Traffic Safety Team was recmtly owarded $615,000.00 of
"Safe Routes to School" funding (two seporate projects, one In Immokolee 4
various sitMwalks near Shadow/awn Elementary School) to solve existing safety
concerns fal' children: and,
WHJ:R€AS, four pedestrian brldgu ho~ been built recently in Golden Gote ond on
Vonderbilt DrIve in order to address the lock of bicycle ond pedestrian focillties
on bridges In those artlas.

NOW T'HJ:RE:FORE. be It proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, thot May 28th. 2010 be designated as
CO/.LIJ:R COUNTY BIK€ TO WORK DAY
in Collier County, and encourage every citizen of this community to ride Q bike
to school, to work, to shopping, or to any other of the events planned for
National Bike Month and Collier County Bike to Work Day, ond Join fellow
residents in sharing this healthy and pollution-free form of transportation, and
ask that all motorists drive with extra r;arr: during this time, while they share
the road.
