EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award bid #10-5384, Communications Services, to
Fiber Solutions of Southwest Florida, Inc. and Aztek Communications of
South Florida, Inc. in the estimated annual amount of $200,000.
OBJECTIVE: To ensure the effective and efficient installation and maintenance
of the County voice and data cabling infrastructure.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Data and cabling services are required to maintain the County's voice and data
network. As such, the Information Technology Department periodically requests
bids for voice and data cabling and related services. The last bids requested
were presented to the BCC on March 25, 2008, agenda item 16E8.
Bid #10-5384 was posted on January 29, 2010. One hundred fifty-six inquiries
were sent and three (3) bids were received and opened on February 19, 2010.
Staff has reviewed these bids and recommends that contracts be awarded to
Fiber Solutions of Southwest Florida, Inc. and Aztek Communications of South
Florida, Inc. as the lowest qualified responsive bidders. Work will be distributed
as follows:
. For work in the amount of $50,000 or less: the department may select
one of the vendor(s) on contract, quote out the work among all
vendor(s) on contract, or competitively solicit for new quotes.
· For work in the amount of more than $50,000 and less than $200,000:
the department may quote out work among the vendor(s) on contract,
or, may conduct a separate new solicitation.
· In no case may a single repair or new installation job exceed $200,000
on resultant contracts of this bid.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds are budgeted in individual department and project
budgets. Estimated annual value of bid is $200,000.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact
associated with this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County
Attorney's Office and is legally sufficient for Board action. - CMG
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners awards
contracts under bid #10-5384, Communications Services, to Fiber Solutions of
Southwest Florida, Inc. and Aztek Communications of South Florida, Inc. and

authorizes the Chairman to execute the standard agreements after County
Attorney approval.
