EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Cynthia Piper, Park Ranger, Parks and Recreation
Department, as the Employee of the Month for April 2010.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize Cynthia Piper, Park Ranger, as the Employee of the Month for April
2010.
CONSIDERATIONS: Cynthia Piper, Park Ranger, has been nominated as the "Employee of the
Month" for April 2010. Cynthia, who goes by Piper, has been an employee of the County for
almost nine years.
Piper has recently assumed the responsibility of the day to day operations at Collier County's
newest recreation facility, Freedom Park. In just four months she has gone above and beyond
her regular duties to make the park a place that the public really enjoys. Piper has developed
an array of programs for Freedom Park. These include an innovative walk called the Soft Walk,
a guided walk through the park without talking. She installed natural history exhibits, designed
the Fair Trade gift shop, scheduled several special events and has assisted with the Market in
the Park event that is held weekly. She has also recruited more than ten volunteers to help at
the park and successfully completed a volunteer orientation with them.
In addition to her duties at Freedom Park, Piper is the chairperson for the Parks and Recreation
Department's Annual Child Safety Fair which is held every October. She also volunteers to
manage the Gotta Regatta Banquet, an annual sailing event for people with special needs, and
serves as an instructor for summer camp sessions. Through her programs she has broadened
the minds of thousands of children and adults in our community.
Piper's enthusiasm, drive and commitment make her an asset to Collier County. She is truly
deserving of this award.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item presents no legal issues. - JAK
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: To approve the recognition of Cynthia Piper as the "Employee of the
Month" for April 2010.
