Recommendation to authorize a Budget Amendment in the amount of $307,400 to fund
the interior reconfiguration of the Supervisor of Elections building at 3300 Santa
Barbara Boulevard in order to maximize the efficiency of the space including the
creation of a combination training/call center room in preparation for the upcoming
2010 elections.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners to authorize a Budget
Amendment in the amount of $307,400 to fund the interior reconfiguration of the Supervisor of Elections
building at 3300 Santa Barbara Boulevard to create a combination training/call center room in preparation
for the upcoming 2010 elections.
CONSIDERATIONS: County building #03-06 at 3300 Santa Barbara Boulevard had been previously
shared by Coastal Zone Management and the Supervisor of Elections. As part of the recent consolidation
of office space, Coastal Zone Management was relocated to the first floor of Building F. The Supervisor of
Elections has requested the vacated space and has worked with County staff and a local architect to
maximize the use of the space, including the creation of a combination training/call center room. The
training/call center room will be used in preparation for the 2010 elections.
The limited renovations include reworking the floor plan, updating an inefficient HVAC system, providing
the required voice and data network, and installing additional ceiling insulation to meet the code minimum
requirement.

FISCAL IMPACT: This project was anticipated and noted in the December 15, 2009, Executive Summary
to the Board "Report to the Board detailing the status of FY 2010 capital project funding" (Agenda Item
10C). The requested Budget Amendment will transfer funds in the amount of $307,400 from the County
Wide Capital Projects fund 301 reserves. Source of funds is ad valorem.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the County Attorney's Office
and is legally sufficient for Board action.-CMG
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorizes a Budget Amendment in the
amount of $307,400 to fund the interior reconfiguration of the Supervisor of Elections building at 3300
Santa Barbara Boulevard, as described within this Summary.
