WHEREAS, approximately 8,230 new cases of cancer are estimated to have OCCU/'TVd in our
area in 2009, and deWlstatingly 20,680 FJoridtJ citizens are expected to lose their
baffle with Ct1ncer this year,," and,
WHCREAS, The Amt4rlcan Cancer Society Is the nation's laryest and most respected voluntary
voluntary health organizatlan and sim:e 1913 has funded research which has
contributed fa ellfJry known method for detecting cancer and techniques for treating
cancer: thereby increasing the cancer survival rates from 10% to over 65%: and,
WHCREAS, the color purple is the signature color of the American Cancer Society's Relay For
Life events signifying the passion that cancer survivors and their fanl/lies and loved
ones feel for the eradication of this disease: and,
WHCREAS. the RIfLA y FOR LIFE ellfJflt finanCially benefits the American Cancer Society's
research and patient support programs, and educationally benefits our local citizens:

WHCREAS. the Amt4rlcan Cancer Society's Relay For Life In Golden Gate is a cammunity ellfJnt
that allows an opportunity fa nt!fwork with buslnuses. associates, family and
friends, with the same goal of making a difference in the battle against cancer:

WHCREAS, part of the recognition of the Relay For Life ellfJflt Is the "Purple Ribbon Campaign"
to ShDW our support to those individuals living with cancer and honor those individuals
that hallfJ lost their IillfJs to the dreaded disease.
NOW THEREFORE. be it proclaimed by the Baard of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida. that April 10, 2010. be designated as
PAINT OUR TOWN PURPLE DAY
and also recognize May 1st and zod as RELAY FOR LIFE DAYS in Golden
Gate City. We further urge all citizens to recognize and participate in this
anticancer campaign held in our community.
