PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, the history of Collier County is filled with individuals who have made it
their life s work to help in providing a legacy from which the exponential
growth that has been experienced became sustoinable and a springboard
from which our excellent County services awe their foundation: and.
WHEREAS, on Wednesday. 1d" March, 2010 one such individual, farmer Collier County
sheriff Aubrey Rogers, died at the age of 83 and in this passing the
community lost a true legend. true colleague and friend to many in Collier
Caunty who have felt this loss so deeply: and.
WHEREAS, after an early career in the Fort Myers police force a providential move for
Callier County happened in 19!J6 when Aubrey Rogers maved ta Everglades
City to be the chief deputy to the Collier County sheriff and was eventually
appointed to the position af sheriff in late 1975 and served with honar until
1988 having won election three times: and,
WHEREAS, starting from a sheriff's office of anly 163, Aubrey Rogers increased the
staff to nearly 700, brought the 911 system to the County, youth relations
deputies ta the schools, helped develap the Junior Deputy League, all a
basis for the excellent sheriff's office that Collier County is so proud to be
served by: and,
WHEREAS, the depth af gratitude Collier County holds far Aubrey Rogers has
manifested itself in a county wide expression of sadness on his death and
with many stories being told of how lives were touched by not only Sheriff
Aubrey Rogers but also the family man and friend: and,
WHEREAS, this proclamatian is given as a tribute to Aubrey Rogers for 9iving of
himself for so many years to the betterment of the community of Collier
Caunty, the legacy Aubrey Rogers leaves us can be seen and felt in many
facets of life in the County and our heartfelt gratitude can be measured by
the pride we have in the sheriffs office.
NOW THEREFORE. Sa let it be known, this day 23" March, 2010 that the Board of
County Commissioners recognizes the passing of
AUBREY ROGERS
and with this the loss of a true servant of Collier County and 9ive grateful
thanks that he chose the path of Collier County to walk down in this life.
