EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Appointment ofmember(s) to the Land Acquisition Advisory Committee
OBJECTIVE: To appoint 2 members to serve 3 year terms, expiring on February II, 2013, to
the Land Acquisition Advisory Committee.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Land Acquisition Advisory Committee had I term expire on
February 11,2010 and I member resigned with the term expiring on February 11,2013. This 9-
member committee was created by Ordinance No. 2002-63 and their primary responsibility is to
recommend to the BCC an Active Properties Acquisition List with qualified purchase
recommendations of environmentally sensitive lands consistent with the goals of the
Conservation Collier Land Acquisition Program. Membership of the committee shall comprise
broad and balanced representation including environmental and conservation interests,
agricultural and business interests, educational interests, and general civic and citizen interests
within the County. Members shall have expertise, knowledge or interest in ecology,
conservation of natural resources, real estate or land acquisition, land appraisal, land
management, eco-tourism or environmental education. A list of the current membership is
included in the backup.
Ms. Mimi Wolok's term expired on February 11,2010 and she did not request reappointment.
Mr. Robert W. Dorta was reappointed on January 26, 2010; however, he resigned on February 4,
2010. A press release was issued and reswnes were received from the following 4 interested

Recommendation for Conservation Collier Committee appointments
On Februaty 8, 2010, the Conservation Collier Land Acquisition Advisory Committee
(CCLAAC) met at their regularly scheduled monthly meeting and discussed the applications of
fOUT (4) persons to fill two (2) current vacancies. Initially, the Committee was seeking one
replacement for Mimi Wolok, whose term expires on February 11,2010. However, on February
4, 20 I 0, Bob Dorta resigned leaving two open seats. Mr. Dorta had been re-appointed to his seat
on January 26, 2010 by the Board.
After discussion, a motion was made and seconded for the CCLAAC to recommend two of the
applicants, with a third applicant recommended as back-up. One of the recommended applicants,
Clarence Tears, is employed by another governmental agency and there was a question whether
that would present a conflict of interest. Mr. Tears was recommended pending review of the
County Attorney's Office on that matter. A third applicant was recommended as back-up, in
case it was determined that there is a conflict with Mr. Tears. The motion to recommends the
following three applicants, with Mr. Schultheis as back-up for Mr. Tears, was approved by a
unanimous 7-0 vote. The applicants are identified below.
1. Clarence Tears - recommended for appointment absent issues of conflict
2. Lauren Barber - recommended for appointment.
3. Robert Schultheis - recommended as backup for Clarence Tears .
4. Anthony M. Ojanovac - no recommendation provided
All applicants met criteria for appointment. The two top recommended applicants demonstrated
significantly more work experience in areas of expertise relevant to Conservation Collier
Committee work.
