Our original intent was to acquire additional much needed child identification equipment and some limited staff time to operate the new machine, This equipment is used to create biometrics on Collier County youth that would be used in the event of a tragic loss of a child, such as in the recent case of young Adji Desir's disappearance. Economic conditions at the time suggested that we could acquire and operate the equipment with the grant funds provided. However, due to the economic downturn, our local office has been suffering much like your own office, with personal service restrictions and a hiring freeze. Our staff is our direct services element and staffing needs have become pre- imminent to the extent that we have had to refocus our expenditures, This request is forwarded to obtain approval to utilize the previously provided funding in a manner that will most assist our office in maintaining operations; specifically, we are asking that the Sheriff's Office and Board of County Commissioners permit the Naples' Office of the National Center to utilize the funds without restriction. If you should have any questions pertaining to this request please contact me at 566- 580 1.
