EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners acting as the
Community Redevelopment Agency to approve the expansion of Airport Park in
Immokalee in collaboration between the Immokalee CRA and the Collier Parks and
. Recreation Department and authorize the expenditure of $90,585 from Fund 306 to
pay 50% ofthe total cost ofthe project. (Companion to Item Gl)
Obiective: To provide recreational opportunities for the citizens of Immokalee.
Considerations: The Board of County Commissioners and the Airport Authority
Board entered into a lease agreement that allowed for the expansion of lmmokalee
Airport Park managed by the Parks and Recreation Department on July 24, 2007 (Item
16027).
This 7 -acre leased parcel was to expand the existing Airport Park to allow for additional
use for community-wide events.
The Immokalee Community Redevelopment Agency and the Collier County Parks and
Recreation Department are seeking to collaborate to share costs associated with this
expansion with each entity paying for 50% of the total cost.
A conceptual plan of the expanded Park is found as an attachment along with a
breakdown of anticipated costs.
Advisory Committee Recommendation: On October 21, 2009, at a regular
meeting of the lmmokalee CRA Advisory Committee and the 1mmokalee Master Plan
and Visioning Committee, the committees voted (with one abstention) to support the
creation of a working relationship between the Collier County Parks and Recreation
Department, the Airport Authority and the lmmokalee CRA toward the expansion of the
lmmokalee Airport Park on the 7 acres leased from the Airport Authority by the Parks
and Recreation Department and to provide $90,585 from Fund 186 toward the expansion.
The project would provide for closing the road, fencing in the entire area, filling the low
lying property and providing sod, building a walkway around/within the park, providing
Pervious paving and paved handicap parking, and landscaping to compliment the CRA
Public Realm design. Parks and Recreation has budgeted $90,585 for the project, the
Airport Authority has committed to provide the fill at no charge.
FiscallmDact: Fiscal impact associated with this recommendation is in the amount of
$181,170 with 50% of this cost paid from the Immoka1ee Community Redevelopment
Agency Fund 186 and 50% from the Parks and Recreation Capital Fund 306. Budget
amendments are needed to move $90,585 from the Parks and Recreation Fund 306 and to
recognize the transfer of $90,585 from the Immoka1ee Community Redevelopment
Agency Fund 186.

Growth Manaaement: Airport Park is inventoried in the Growth Management Plan.
Leaal Considerations: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's Office
and is legally sufficient for Board action. - CMG
