EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award Countywide Bid #09-5289 for the "Purchase & Delivery of
Inorganic/Organic Mulch" to Forestry Resources, Hazeltine Nurseries, A+M Golf Services
and Play It Safe Enterprises for an estimated annual expenditure of $100,000.
OBJECTIVE: To award annual contracts for providing and delivery of mulch products. These
products are used for weed control and moisture retention in plant beds and for ground cover on
playgrounds. Several County departments will utilize this bid.
CONSIDERATION: This bid was publicly posted on August 28, 2009 with notices of invitation
to bid sent to three hundred seventy-eight (378) vendors and twenty-eight (28) bid packages
were downloaded. On September 22, 2009 five (5) vendors submitted bid packages, one of
which was deemed non-responsive because of omission of required documentation. Staff
recommends that the four firms be awarded primary and secondary status on a line by line
basis.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: While these contracts have no direct growth
management impact, they are consistent with the County's long-term growth plans.
FISCAL IMPACT: Each Collier County department allocates funding for mulch in each
appropriate cost center with an estimated expenditure countywide of approximately $100,000.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the County
Attorney's Office and is legally sufficient for Board action-SRT.
RECOMMENDATION: To award countywide Bid #09-5289 for the "Purchase & Delivery of
Inorganic/Organic Mulch" to Forestry Resources, Hazeltine Nurseries, A+M Golf Services and
Play It Safe Enterprises, The contract will be in the form of a County Purchase Order.
