Agenda 02/09/2010 Item #16C1 Agenda Item No. 16C1 February 9, 2010 Page 1 of 3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Approve award of Bid No. 09.5300 for Emergency and Scheduled Grease, Sludge, and Sewage Hauling. Estimated Annual Expenses $250,000.00 OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners to award Bid No. 09-5300 to facilitate the operation of the wastewater transmission system, including 750 lift stations, for emergency and scheduled grease, sludge and sewage hauling. CONSIDERATION: The Public Utilities Division's Wastewater Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater system within the Collier County Water-Sewer District. The Wastewater Department maintains close to 1,000 miles of pipe and 750 lift stations used to collect the wastewater. The wastewater is transported to the treatment plant and processed into irrigation quality water. To maintain the flow of wastewater during 24/7/365 hours of operation, maintenance, and scheduled and emergency repairs, wastewater transport trucks must be utilized to facilitate and supplement compliant operations. This bid was posted on December 7, 2009, with 138 firms who provide these services notified. Three bids were received on the due date of December 22, 2009 from Dixie Drainfiled, Southern Sanitation, and Crews Environmental. Purchasing and Wastewater Department staff reviewed the bids and recommend awarding to all three firms, to facilitate and supplement compliant wastewater operations for both routine maintenance and emergency repair situations. FISCAL IMPACT: Funds are available in FY 2010 Water-Sewer District operating and capital budget funds for Wastewater Pump Stations, Transmission Systems, and Treatment Facilities. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this Executive Summary. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the County Attorney's Office and is legally sufficient-JBW. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Collier County Commissioners awards Bid 09- 5300 to Dixie Drainfiled, Southern Sanitation, and Crews Environmental.
