EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Mario Garcia, SCADA Operator, Wastewater Department, as the
Employee of the Month for November 2011.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize Mario Garcia, SCADA Operator, as the Employee of the Month for
November 2011.
CONSIDERATIONS: Mario Garcia, SCADA Operator, has been nominated as the "Employee of
the Month" for November 2011. Mario, an employee of the County for over fifteen years, works
in the Wastewater Department.
Mario is a positive and dedicated employee who works in the Power Systems Section of the
Wastewater Department. Earlier in the year the department had two of their team members
leave the section. This left them with half of the necessary staff to perform an ever increasing
workload of maintaining over 750 sewer pumping stations. Without being asked Mario put forth
an unrelenting effort to assist. He became the "go to" Instrumentation and Electrical Technician,
even though that was not his position. He did this while responding to trouble calls and repairs,
ordering new materials and keeping the main wastewater pump station's SCADA
Communications Systems operational. His daily activities would have become overwhelming to
most, but he never complained about any task given to him. When the pump station collections
team was fully staffed again, Mario changed roles to become a mentor and trainer to the
department's new employees. He is a team player who always finds the time to assist anyone
in need:
Mario is a valued team member, and an asset to the County. He is truly deserving of this
award.
FISCAL EVIPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT (IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Mario Garcia as "Employee of the Month" for November 2011.
