Recommendation to accept 60% design plans of the Gordon River Greenway Park
by Kimley -Horn Associates, Inc.
OBJECTIVE: To provide recreational opportunities for the citizens of Collier County.
CONSIDEERRATI_,ONS: The Gordon River Greenway Park is a joint effort between the
Parks and Recreation Department, Conservation Collier program, and the Naples Zoo.
Design of the park is through a contract with Kimley -Horn Associates, Inc. Current
design plans are at 60% completion. As part of the rezoning, the Board of County
Commissioners (Agenda Item 8A --July 28, 2011) voted to request review of the 60%
design plans.
Input and concurrence into the design of the park has occurred both from the partners
described above and stakeholders that have met bi- monthly for input during the course of
the design. These stakeholders include The Naples Airport Authority, City of Naples,
Bear's Paw Community, Naples Zoo, Conservancy of Southwest Florida, and Southwest
Florida Land Preservation Trust.
In addition, community input was recently sought during a Neighborhood Information
meeting held October 19, 2011 at. Freedom Park. Suggestions included fencing, lighting,
emergency response and operating hours which will be processed in subsequent meetings
of the stakeholders. These recommendations do not require substantial modifications to
the 60% design plans.
FISCAL Funds for the completion of the design, permitting, and
construction of the park are in Parks and Recreation Fund 306 Project #80065 and
Conservation Collier Fund 174.
_GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: A portion of the Gordon River Greenway
Park is found within the regional park inventory of the Parks and Recreation Department,
the remaining section is associated with Conservation Collier Preserve lands.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's
Office, requires majority vote, and is legally sufficient for.Board action. - CMG
RECO NDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners accepts the 60%
design plans associated with the Gordon River Greenway Park.
