NHEREAS, on October 23, 1956, a peaceful mph through the streets of B&dapest by
university students, joined by workers and cM ans mmbering same 100, 01010,
protesting against the A&Wrian communist government, was fired yaan by

WHEREAS, this action trw vwd into armed conflict that swvad tAroighout Hurgary, was
std by wide scale offensive of 16 Soviet rtrmo wd divrsious and
resulted in tans of thousands of Hungarian citizens killed and wounded, many
of them avwen and children, tens of thousands imp w- red or deported to
Russia, and fwndreds executed; and
WHEREAS, an estimated 200, 000 Hangarions fled their country in the aftermath of the
Soviet s*pression of the Ateparian Wishy and settled in var /anus comtries,
wyth the majority in the United States, where they contribute to the cuh'we
and. economic strength of this nation, the state of F/arida and Collier County;
and,
WHEREAS, the refugees who settied in Collier Carty joined by Amerkaw of Marian
descent, their friends, relatives and other patriots of freedom twgg uze the
n 5e annivrrsory of the 1956 HtwyarVan Revolution and covnmemorate those
who have fought to preserve their freedoms.
NOW THEREFORE, be it prwckrimed by the Board of Comity Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that the heroism and sacrifice for freedom of the Hcmgaran
pc*k in 19M be fully appreciated by a// freedom - loving members of the
community.
