PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders are a group of serious developmental
brain disorders, ranging in severity, that appear in early childhood and
affect an individual's ability to communicate and interact with others; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that one in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism,
making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric
AIDS combined; and
WHEREAS, early intervention and treatment can make a big impact in the lives of those
affected by autism; and
WHEREAS, Eden Autism Services mission is to improve the lives of children and adults
with autism and provide support to their families by providing a range of
community based services to meet specific needs throughout the lifespan of
the individual; and
WHEREAS, these services include 9-12 schools in Fort Myers and Naples, clinical
services, consultations and community training, and adult residential facilities,
vocational training and employment services; and
WHEREAS, Eden Autism Services began providing these much needed services in 1996,
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, Eden Autism Services is recognized for its 15 years of
providing services to children and adults with autism in Southwest Florida and
urges all citizens to support the organization and its efforts to help
individuals struggling with autism.
