WHERE45 domestic violence permeates the lives and canwv rises the safety of thousands
of Collier County citizens with tragic, destructive, and sometimes fatal results,:
and,
WHEREAS, the Problems of domestic vioknce are not confined to any one group of people,
but affect people across a// economic stmfo, race and ethnicity, sexual
orientation, culture and society, and are supported by societal indifference;
and,
WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an indiviaiwAr privacy, dignity security
and humanity due to systemic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psycho/op/cal,
and economic control and/or abuse; end,
WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide - ranging, directly offectinog women,. men,
children and society as a whole; and,
WHEREAS, The Shelter for Abused Women d Children has prov/ied support, 'safety and
advocacy to domestic violence survivors and their children since 1989; and
WHEREAS, Collier Cowrty is committed to taking a firm stand against domestic violence and
will remain focused on ensuring that a// Collier County residents are safe in their
homes and abusers are held accountable for their crimes.
NOW THEREFORE; be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissimmrs of Collier County,
Florida, Mat October; 2011 be designated as
