WHEREAS, Cody Anderson was born on July 4rh in 1955 in Connecticut and considers himself a Christian, patriotic
American who believes in healing the sick, feeding the poor and believing that Cod has given him the
insight, strength and faith to do what he can for those in need; and,
WHEREAS, twelve years ago Cody was assaulted and sustained severe injuries where he has had to undergo ten
surgeries, a spina/ cord stimulator implant and suffers from chronic pain, but Cody feels that even
though he is disabled, it is nothing compared to what injuries many of our service men and women
have suffered; and,
WHEREAS, Cody's first venture was in 1976 when he got the feeling he needed to raise awareness for disease
and famine when he started training for a walk for Leukemia; and
WHEREAS, in December, 2003 Cody walked 45 miles in 17 hours from Naples City Hall to the Fort Myers City
Ha// to pay tribute to U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan; and,
WHEREAS, among supporting many causes, Cody has walked over 4,800 miles while pulling a covered wagon for
the American Heart Association; he pedaled over 7, 800 miles across the United States in a
homemade space shuttle to honor the crew of the Challenger and to raise money for CARE, he
parasoiled from Marco Is /and to St. Petersburg, FL to benefit the American Cancer Society; and,
WHEREAS, we would like to pay special recognition to Homer He /ter and De// Ackerman, local residents and
business owners who provide continuous support for Cody'; ongoing efforts and who offer support for
our soldiers as well; and,
14' -QEAS, Cody's next support mission is to go back to Afghanistan to provide calling cards to our soldiers and
to spread support and gratitude for those who selflessly serve our country, take time away from
their families to defend our freedom, and to remind them that we truly appreciate what they do and
acknowledge how much they sacrifice for us.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that
September 13, 2011 be designated as
COD ANDERSON DAY
as we support him on his future support missions for our country's soldiers.
