EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Alfred Robertson, Recycling Specialist, Solid
Waste Department, as the Employee of the Month for June 2011.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize Alfred Robertson.. Recycling Specialist, as the Employee of the
Month for June 2011.
CONSIDERATIONS: Alfred Robertson, Recycling Specialist, has been nominated as the
"Employee of the Month" for June 2011. Al, an employee of the County for over ten years,
works in the Solid Waste Department.
As a Recycling Specialist, with certifications in hazardous materials handling and safety. Al
works in the Environmental Compliance section of the department. He is often the first person
in each morning and, as such, he sets the standard for punctuality, dependability and dedication
for others in the department. With his vast knowledge of landfill operations and recycling
centers he is able to address problems quickly and often makes valuable suggestions for
improvement. As an example, in the past the Solid Waste Department was paying a vendor to
recycle vehicle battery cores. AI instead found a company that was willing to pay the County for
each battery core. This arrangement has lead to increased revenues each year and free weekly
pickups for the department. Al strives to provide excellent customer service and good working
relationships with vendors. He promptly handles customer issues and provides creative, cost
effective solutions.
Al is team player who is always willing to go above and beyond to help his customers and his
coworkers. He is a valuable asset to the County and is truly deserving of this award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Alfred Robertson as "Employee of the Month" for June 2011.
