EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint a member to the Senior Advisory Committee.
OBJECTIVE: That the Board appoint a member to the Senior Advisory Committee, representing
District 2, for the remainder of a vacant term expiring on April 19, 2019.
CONSIDERATIONS: This nine-member ad hoc committee was established on November 14, 2017, by
Resolution No. 2017-220, to assist the Board of County Commissioners in compiling and identifying
issues and relevant best practices concerning senior citizens in Collier County. Of the nine members,
there shall be one member from each of the five commission districts, and four at -large members.
Candidates for the five commission district seats must be nominated by the commissioner of the district
they reside in, and need a simple majority vote for appointment. Candidates for the four at -large seats
may be nominated by any commissioner, but must receive a four-fifths vote for appointment or
reappointment. All members must be 62 years of age or older. This committee shall automatically sunset
on April 19, 2019, which is one year from the first meeting of the committee, unless extended by
resolution of the BCC or converted into a permanent advisory committee.
The committee member representing District 2, Murray Hendel, has resigned. The vacancy was
advertised, and Andy Solis, District 2 Commissioner, desires to nominate the following applicant:

RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners appoints Harriet Lancaster to the
Senior Advisory Committee, representing District 2, to fill the remainder of a vacant term expiring on
April 19, 2019, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointment.
