Recommendation to recognize Gary Kessler, Program Leader, Parks and Recreation Department,
as the Employee of the Month for May 2011.
OBJECTfVE: To recognize Gary Kessler, Program Leader, as the Employee of the Month for
May 2011.
CONSIDERATIONS: Gary Kessler, Program Leader, has been nominated as the "Employee of
the Month" for May 2011. Gary, an employee of the County for over twenty years, works in the
Parks and Recreation Department.
As a Program Leader in the Athletics section, Gary is always willing to adjust his schedule to
accommodate the ever changing needs at the North Collier Regional Park due to weekend and
night activities, tournaments and special events. During his supervisor's recent extended
absence he also stepped up and accepted additional responsibilities at the softball complex to
help with the staff shortage. In addition to his contributions to the athletics programs, Gary is
being recognized for his outstanding working relationships with the many organizations that hold
special events at the park. These events include the Baby Basics Walking and Biking Event,
held to raise money for baby supplies for low income families, and the AT-Children's Project
Annual Run, held to raise funds to find a cure for a rare, genetic disease that attacks children.
From start to finish, Gary works with these groups to ensure their events are successful. Even
though these are considered to be outside of his normal responsibilities, he goes above and
beyond to handle these events and often receives personal thank you notes from the
organizations he helps.
Gary's outstanding people skills, energy and positive attitude make him a great ambassador of
the Parks and Recreation Department and the County. He is truly deserving of this award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Gary Kessler as "Employee of the Month" for May 2011.
