EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Appointment of member(s) to the Animal Services Advisory Board
OBJECTIVE: To appoint I member to serve a 4 year term, expiring on April 13, 2015, to the
Animal Services Advisory Board. Change the category of an existing member of the committee
with a term to expire April 13, 2015. To appoint 1 member to serve a tenn to expire April 13,
2012.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Animal Services Advisory Board is a 7-member board that was
created on January 27, 2004 by Ordinance No. 2004-06 to make recommendations to the Board
of County Commissioners on programs, services, classes and special events that will further
assist Collier Comity Domestic Animal Serviees in providing the best possible scrvice to the
community. They will also analyze and review construction and improvements to Domestic
Animal Services facilities and make rccommendations to the Board of County Commissioners
regarding such facilities. Three (3) members shall serve a tenn of four (4) years; two (2)
members shall serve a term of three (3) years; and two (2) members shall serve a term of two (2)
years. After initial appointments, tenllS will be 4 years. Membership shall represent the
following categories:
I - Humane Society of Collier County
I - Law Enforcement
I - Veterinarian or Vet Tech
I - Animal Activist Group
I - Citizen in the Pet Retail, Boarding or Grooming Industry
2 - At Large

The tenns for Michele Antonia (Animal Activist Group) and Sergeant David Estes (Law
Enforcement) will expire on April 13. 2011. A press release was issued and resumes were
reeeived from the following 4 interested citizens:

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: We did not receive applicants representative of
"Animal Activist", it is recommended that Jamcs Rich an existing member who is President of
"For the Love of Cats" and is qualified, assume the position in the category "Animal Activist"
with a tenn to expire April l3, 2015. Marjorie Bloom to he appointed the representative for the
"At Large" category with a tenn to expire April 13, 2012 and reappoint Sergeant David Estes
with a term to expire April 13, 2015.

GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: NONE
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners considers the
recommendation for appointment, appoint 2 members, and direct the County Attorney to prepare
a resolution ehanging the category and tem1 of James Rich.
