EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Appointment of member(s) to Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
OBJECTIVE: To appoint 1 members to fulfill a remaining term expiring on December 31,
2013, to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board has 1 vacancy for a term
that expires on December 31, 2013, representing the Urban area. Representation on this board
consists of 1 member from the Immokalee Community Park District, and 6 members from the
Naples and Urban Area Community Park District. This 7 member board advises the Board of
County Commissioners on matters pertaining to the acquisition, development and programs
involving the County's park facilities. Terms are 4 years.
A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
William C. Shafer representing the Urban area has resigned with a tenn that expires December
13, 2011. A press release was issued and resumes were received from the following 4 interested

Parks lmd Recreation. During this time I have demonstrate effective facility long -nmge
planning, progranunins, development and maintenance pro for paries and
recreation. I have written and implemented park policies procedures, fce policy,
prepared budgets (capital and operational), and designed served as the on-site project
manager for a variety of park sites and amenities.
During my long career I am most proud. of initiating a m cipal Park Ranger SeJ.Vice
where the primary mission "compliance through education' bas become a model for
many governmental park nmger services in Florida. I am so pleased to have assisted in
the acquisition of one of the last undeveloped barrier islan in southwest F1~
Barefoot Beach Preserve, to serve as a passive beach park, opher tOrtoise sanctuary, and
research site, and authoring the first Collier County Parks d Recreation Ordinance.
