Agenda 06/26/2018 Item #16K606/26/2018 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to appoint two members to the Black Affairs Advisory Board. OBJECTIVE: To reappoint one current member and appoint one new member to the Black Affairs Advisory Board, to four-year terms expiring on June 25, 2022. CONSIDERATIONS: This nine-member board was created in 1991 to identify and evaluate problems unique to the black community, review and recommend ways to ensure open communication between minorities and Collier County government, and provide periodic reports to the Board of County Commissioners. Terms are four years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup. There are currently three vacancies on this advisory board, and two seats which expire on June 25, 2018. Osborne n/a 4 Yes None *incumbent reapplying ATTENDANCE: Staff attests that Ms. Williams is a valued member with good attendance. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: This committee has been unable to have a quorum for several months, and so has been unable to make a recommendation on these applications. Staff recommends that Ms. Williams be reappointed, and that Mr. Dera be appointed, to four-year terms expiring on June 25, 2022. Staff has been unable to reach Mr. Osborne regarding his application, and therefore he is not recommended for appointment. A recommendation email is included in the backup to this item. FISCAL IMPACT: None. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None. However, the BAAB has experienced quorum issues for the past several months and therefore have been unable to review the applications and make recommendations for appointment. An application for re -appointment was submitted by existing member Jennifer Williams. Ms. Williams has served on the BAAB for several years and I can personally attest to the fact that she is a valued member with good attendance. Also, an application was submitted by Mr. Kerry Dera. I have reviewed Mr. Dera's application and it appears that he meets all qualifications and I believe his membership will beneficial to the group. Therefore, it is my recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners re -appoints Jennifer Williams and appoints Kerry Dera to four-year terms.
