EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a one year time extension amendment to the Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT) Joint Participation Agreement (JPA) G0A60 for the FY15-16 Section 5339
Bus and Bus Facilities Grant for the construction of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
compliant bus stops in the rural area of Collier County.
OBJECTIVE: To extend Bus and Bus Facilities JPA to complete necessary ADA bus stop
improvements in the rural area of Collier County.
CONSIDERATIONS: On June 14, 2016, the Board of County Commissioners (Board) approved a JPA
with FDOT to construct ADA compliant bus stops throughout the rural area of Collier County in the
amount of $263,000. On April 13, 2018, Public Transit & Neighborhood Enhancement (PTNE) staff
submitted a request to FDOT to extend the current agreement set to expire December 31, 2018 to
December 31, 2019, to complete the construction of five (5) new bus shelters and eleven (11) ADA
improvements in the rural areas. With this extension, staff requested that the shelter construction and
ADA improvements with this grant be consolidated with the FY14/15 Bus and Bus Facilities grant which
expires December 31, 2019. Currently, bus stop locations for shelter and ADA improvements have been
identified, and surveys of these locations are about to begin.
A summary of the reason for the time extension was included in the extension request to FDOT and is
attached to this Item. FDOT sent the extension amendment to PTNE staff on May 3, 2018, and is attached
for the Board’s consideration.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no Fiscal impact associated with this Item. Funding was previously
appropriated within CAT Grant Fund (424), Project 33474.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management impact.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This Item is approved for form and legality and requires a majority vote
for Board action. -JAB
