EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve an after -the fact amendment between Collier County and the Area
Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, Inca d/b /a Senior Choices of Southwest Florida to reflect a
revision in the budget summary page to include 24 -hour respite services for the Community Care
for the Elderly Program.
OBJECTIVE: To expand service provisions to the elderly in our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Services for Seniors program managed within the Housing Human and
Veteran Services (HHVS) Department has been providing support services to Collier County's frail and
elderly citizens for over 32 years through the Community Care for the Elderly Program (CCE). This
grant was allotted to Collier County as Lead Agency was approved by the Board on May 22. 2012 Item
No. 16D.4.
The Board approved a grant agreement on July 24, 2012, item No. 16 D .15 with the Area Agency on
Aging for Southwest Florida d/b /a Senior Choices.
The amendment to the CCE program will add 24 -Hour Facility Respite; this additional new service will
offer seniors more alternatives to respite care. The amendment is being presented as an after -the -fact
because Collier County received the grant agreement on October 18, 2012 and we did not learn that
immediate execution was required until after the agenda deadline for the November 13, 2012 Board
meeting. Consequently, pursuant to CMA 5330 and Resolution No. 2010 -122, the County Manager
authorized Steve Carnell, Interim Administrator, to sign•the contract. Collier County as the Lead Agency
is responsible to respond to seniors needs and to manage the spending authority for the CCE program
services.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT: There are no growth management impacts from this recommendation.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact resulting from this amendment. CCE funds are located
within Human Services Grant Fund 707, Project #33216.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is legally sufficient and requires a majority vote for Board
action. -JBW

statement between Collier County and the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, Inc. d/b /a Senior
Choices of Southwest Florida to provide 24 -hour respite services for the Community Care for the Elderly
