PROCLAMATION
"-IEREAS, The Conservancy of Southwest Florida, established in 1964, is a grassroots organization
focused on the critical environmental issues of the Southwest Florida region; and,
WHEREAS, the Conservancy is a valued partner in managing growth; protecting area waters, land
wildlife; promoting sound environmental policies and practices based on solid scientific
research; providing environmental education to residents and visitors, and treating
injured, sick and orphaned wildlife; and,
WHEREAS, the Conservancy celebrates the grand opening of the Southwest Florida Dalton Discovery
Center on November 14, 2012; and,
WHEREAS, the Conservancy Dalton Discovery Center is a significant enhancement, enabling the
Conservancy to shelter approximately 140 animal species, including live reptiles and a
juvenile loggerhead sea turtle, part of Southwest Florida's mosaic of diverse ecosystems;
and,
WHEREAS, the newly renovated Dalton Discovery Center is a unique, state of the art, interpretive
and multi- sensory experience housing five immersive ecosystem exhibits under one roof,'
and
WHEREAS, guests can enjoy more than 100 animals in life -like enclosures and aquaria to better
understand the unique and important habitats of Southwest Florida, how the Conservancy
works to protect them and how they can get involved; and,
WHEREAS, the Conservancy expresses its gratitude to Sue and William Dalton for their generous
lead gift as well as the more than forty other donors who have provided funding and
support.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that November 14, 2012 be designated as
CONSERVANCY OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SUSAN AND WILLIAM DAL TON DISCOVERY CENTER
DAY
