EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Letter of Support for the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council Five Year Update
of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy document.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain Board approval and authorization for the Chairman to sign a letter of
support for the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council (SWFRPC) Five Year Update of
the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy document.
CONSIDERATIONS: The SWFRPC is the Economic Development District(EDD) for the
Southwest Florida Region. The SWFRPC receives a grant from the U.S. Department of
Commerce—Economic Development Administration(EDA) and one of the requirements of the
grant is to perform a five year update of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy
(CEDS) document. At its September 20, 2012 meeting, the SWFRPC approved the Five Year
Update of the CEDS Document.
The EDA requires a letter of support from the Collier County Board of the County
Commissioners.
The letter is included in the back-up information.
FISCAL IMPACT: NONE
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: NONE
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners considers the
recommendations for approval and authorization for the Chairman to sign a letter of support for
the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council (SWFRPC) Five Year Update of the
Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy document.

Collier County supports the 2012-2017 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy(CEDS) Plan prepared by the
Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council's Strategy Committee and CEDS Working Committee. The overall focus of
the CEDS is job creation and diversification of the local economy.
The CEDS document was approved in draft form by the committee on August 31, 2012. Public comments were open
from August 6-September 7, 2012.The Committee sent the document to the Southwest Florida Regional Planning
Council for approval and asked for letters of support from the county commissions within the region.A final document
will be sent to the Economic Development Administration (EDA).
Collier County is willing to designate a representative to serve on advisory boards or committees that are developed in
support of the Economic Development Distinct and support ongoing economic development in our community.
Collier County recognizes the need to support and promote economic development through regional initiatives.
Additionally,the county recognizes that long-range economic development planning is mutually beneficial to the county,
its subsidiaries and the designated regional centers within the County. For this reason, the county wishes to remain an
active member in the Regional Economic Development District and participate in its planning efforts involving economic
development in Southwest Florida.
