WHEREAS, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is a nonprofit health agency dedicated
to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide
research and providing comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy
and education; and
WHEREAS, the MDA relies on donations for programs that are supported nation //y and in local
communities by businesses, associations, organizations, and the care and dedication
of countless individual volunteers; and,
WHEREAS, Firefighters comprise a significant portion of these dedicated volunteers through
the Profession/ Firefighters Association F /l/ the Boot" campaign for the MDA,
making them the largest source of funding; and,
WHEREAS, Florida Firefighters collected over $1.3 mill /on in over 300 communities, including
Collier County, and,
WHEREAS, the MDA /s extremely grateful for the support and ded /cat /on of Coker County
F /ref /ghters which allows them to provide med /cal services at local c//n/cs, summer
camps, research grants, support groups and public education seminars at no cost
to local families and children; and,
WHEREAS, the MDA ' urges all Coll /er County citizens to join them /n honoring the efforts of
local Firefighters on behalf of the countless /nd /v /duals served.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October be designated as
FIREFIGHTER APPRECIATION MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9th Day of October, 2012,
